Elementary Literacy Core Reading Adoption

Elementary Schools are currently beginning the process of adopting a new core reading program. As part of this process, a committee will be formed to review potential programs. Committee responsibilities will include a commitment of 6 to 8 meetings April-May of 2017 and August - November of 2017. Committee members will receive a stipend of $200.

WCSD Elementary Teachers Attend Writing Training With USBE Trainers

Elementary Writing Training

Ninety K-5 Elementary Teachers from schools throughout the district met November 30th in the district board room to participate in an all day writing training offered by our State Literacy Director, Jennifer Throndsen. They learned how to use effective strategies to help students improve their non-fiction writing by connecting what they read to the text they write.

Endorsements

Teachers participate in endorsement cohorts and learn together.

Endorsements

Teachers throughout the district choose to participate in endorsement programs to develop professionally. The learning strengthens teacher's skills and provides opportunities to collaborate, improve instructional strategies, and build instructional resources for classroom students. The teachers spend one evening per week participating in the endorsement with their cohort. Endorsement programs are available for: Mathematics, ESL, Reading, Gifted and Talented Education, and Technology.

Learning Coach Forums

Learning Coaches in Washington County School District meet together in teams with nearby schools to improve their practice and share their expertise. These ongoing training opportunities are designed to help learning coaches fine tune their skills. Learning coaches support teacher professional growth and practice, which translates into improved student learning.
